Product description: Rhodolite is the name used to describe the lovely pinkish, purplish or purple-red garnet which is a mixture of Almandite and Pyrope. This rare garnet shows a wonderful velvety red with a fine purple or raspberry colored undertone. Originally found in the USA, major sources for Rhodolite Garnet Gemstones are Tanzania and North Carolina, USA. Other sources include Burma (Myanmar), Brazil, China, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), and South Africa. The best quality rhodolites were discovered in northeastern Tanzania ’s Umba River. The deposit is still exploited but only during the dry season when the water level recedes and deeper portions of the Umba Valley can be accessed. The Rhodolite from this parcel are some of the best we have ever seen.
